VARTA Microbattery GmbH intensifies its research and development activities and invests in future battery technology
The traditional battery manufacturer VARTA Microbattery located in swabian Ellwangen relies on research and development. It is through this that VARTA Microbattery charters the course for the future and sets things right for the company on a long-term basis. „Modern applications require new developments“, explains Herbert Schein, Managing Director and CEO at VARTA Microbattery. There is a continuing increase in more powerful batteries, for example in the area of rechargeable batteries which are considered to be key technology for environmental friendly energy usage. In order that the progress for medical technology, portable applications and applications for independent sensors continues, there is a need for technically advanced and well-engineered energy storage. VARTA Microbattery meets these requirements with fundamental research.
The challenges of the future will be met by a strengthened team in a new building at the Ellwangen HQ; the VARTA Microbattery Innovation Tower. The new research and development centre offers a dedicated working space for scientists and other key development staff which will support focused work on the batteries of the future. With this move of research and development into the Innovation Tower we will set an example; „a location where innovation is encouraged“ says Herbert Schein in regard to the modern round building.
Recently VARTA Microbattery has founded a joint venture with Volkswagen to develop Lithium-Ion batteries for drive train applications together.
With this move into the VARTA Microbattery Innovation Tower the research and development activities will also be reinforced in the area of portable batteries. Consequently, VARTA Microbattery GmbH commits to ongoing sustainability.
